Like Cathy said, Kim’s dress was now a perfect fit. As she was taking it off, William walked by. After she hung it up, he popped in the room. She only had on panties and an under shirt. “Kim,” he said. “You sure gon’ be pretty when you grow up.”
She didn’t know what to say, so she smiled and turned her back to put her clothes back on. Suddenly she felt William’s hand spin her around and plop a kiss meant for a grown woman dead on her lips. It happened so quick that she didn’t know what to think.
“Why did you do that, Daddy?”
“All daddies do that to their little girls.” He then fondled her butt before leaving the room. While she was putting her clothes on, she thought the kiss was the nastiest thing anyone had ever done to her.
When Victor got downstairs, he wanted to scream. His mother had knocked the food table over and was sitting in the potato salad bowl. He reached out to help her. “I can get up by myself, asshole!”
As she got to her feet, she fell again. Mike and Jerome began to laugh. Cathy gave Mike the look and he stopped, but Jerome continued. Janet and Eve didn’t take kindly to him making fun of their mother. “What you laughin’ at, monkey boy?” yelled Eve. Jerome headed straight over to them ready to fight. Mike pulled him back. Jerome had snuck a couple of drinks, and Mike knew he got crazy when he got drunk.
“Let his ass go!” yelled Janet.
“Yeah, let’s see if he’s as bad as he looks,” said Eve.
Jerome was enraged. “Let me go Mike, I’m gonna kick these bitches’ asses!”
Cathy was growing madder and madder with each passing moment. Gwen was still sitting in the bowl, denying Victor every time he tried to help her up. And when Jerome lunged at Eve, knocking the punch bowl over, she blew her top. “I want everybody out the fuckin’ door! Victor, get her drunk ass the fuck out of here, and Mike, you get that damn monkey and take his ass home!”
Everyone calmly filed out.
Cathy walked out the backdoor and over to a small tree to get a switch. Hallie had just walked in when she got back. “What you bout to do with that switch?”
“I’m gonna give him somethin’ to cry about,” said Cathy.
“No you not, so just put him down.”
Cathy angrily threw him to Hallie and raised her hand at Hallie. She had the look on her face. Hallie was not about to get hit and she grabbed Cathy’s hand in mid air. “You not about to hit me, either!” “Who the hell you think you talkin’ to like that!” yelled Cathy.
“I’m talkin’ to you!”
Cathy looked at Hallie like she was crazy. This was the first time she had ever given her any back talk. “Get out!” yelled Cathy. “Get ya Goddamn chillin’ and get the hell out!”
“So you think that’s gonna scare me! I’d rather leave than watch you hit my children for no reason!” After Hallie packed a few things, she bolted downstairs, but she had a couple of things to get off of her chest before she left. “You know, all I’ve done since I moved here is try to please you! It was ‘Hallie cook this,’ ‘Hallie wash that,’ ‘Hallie go with me here!’ Mike and Tara gave you more trouble than you can remember, but I’m the one you’re throwin’ out!” She was now in tears. “And I know it’s my fault for gettin’ pregnant, but maybe if you had been more of a mother for me, I wouldn’t have! I guarantee I won’t raise mine like you raise me!” After she finished talking, she put Jacob in one stroller, her clothes in the other and grabbed Jonas’ hand. Mike came down the street as they left. “Where y’all goin’, on vacation?” “Don’t fuck with me, Mike!”
